Drawing and calculation of mast, spars and more
A ship’s rigging is always subject to the elements of the weather. Thus, one cannot always avoid replacing a spar as it no longer meets the requirements or is stupidly unsafe for the purpose in question.
In commercial shipping, it has been compulsory for several years now that when a spar is replaced by another material, for example, a drawing with strength calculation must be submitted to the inspection authority.
Masts and spars are also replaced in pleasure craft. Ships sailing with 12 people or less are not yet required to have their rigging inspected. But even there, people want the mast and its rigging to be safe. Here too, regulations will change in the future. Be prepared for this in good time and avoid unpleasant surprises.

Apart from drawing and calculations of your rigging, rebuilding also comes into play. Of course, the first thing to do is to make a drawing and come up with plans, but of course this has to go according to the rules set. Thinking of fire protection requirements, electricity, stability etc…
A helping hand in regulations is then of course very handy.

Please note: Service Maritiem does not supervise or make drawings and calculations.

If you are considering a refit and would like guidance in doing so, I can help you regarding regulations.
